Newbury Bus Terminal, Newbury Berkshire

Sutton Griffin Architects were commissioned by West Berkshire Council to design a shelter for the new bus terminal, which is being relocated to a new home in the Wharf and adjacent to Sutton Griffin’s award winning library and the Grade I listed 16th Century Museum building.

Ian Blake designed the shelter to form a suite of buildings informed by a canal-side vernacular – each having a clay tile pitched roof.  Yet the shelter is detailed in a contemporary manner using galvanised steel and timber to demonstrate its own sense of identity amongst the grouping and provide an active and engaging street front to visitors approaching the wharf area.
