Rembrandt House, Watford Hertfordshire
Rembrandt House is a striking early twentieth century factory building fronting the site and previously had a range of poor value commercial buildings behind. Ian Blake, whilst at Sutton Griffin Architects developed proposals to retain Rembrandt House for offices and create a new residential development behind.
Contemporary town-houses were designed to continue the strips of residential urban grain that exist in the surrounding context, with new apartments over 5 storeys sitting adjacent to Rembrandt House. The development maximises active frontage to all new and existing streets and creates concealed car parking to ensure that CABE’s Manual for Streets can be followed and a pedestrian friendly “Homezone” created for the residents and their families.
