Our Services
We pride ourselves on providing a full Architectural Service, from Architectural design to Project Management. Experience enables us to tailor the approach to meet service needs of individual Clients - providing them with an inviting and efficient process from inception to completion.
As experienced Architects, Lead Consultants and Project Managers our skill is steering projects through to successful completion. As an overview, we break the process into four key elements:
-
Briefing and Design
-
Cost Control and Management
-
Planning
-
Technical Service and Construction
We often say to Clients, “ink is cheap, bricks are expensive!” and use the briefing process as a critical first stage to ensure the needs of the project are fully explored and identified within the design. A comprehensive briefing process with us will minimise potentially expensive changes at a later stage.
The briefing process will include a series of design review workshops, where we sit around the table with you, listen carefully to your requirements and capture these with sketch drawings. Afterwards we return to our Studio and finesse the plans and continue until you are satisfied that they meet your requirements. This process enables us to take on-board your comments and those of any key stakeholders in the project. We communicate clearly and use 3D Computer Models of our designs to ensure our entire thought process and ideas are understood.

Historically, most projects have developed organically, driven by short-term views that are often constrained by capital budgeting. The masterplanning process allows our clients to be proactive with their development planning and establish how individual components within the plan can be delivered over time, in-line with their cash flow constraints.
Our expertise, combined with a detailed understanding of a client’s organisation, means that we are able to guide you through a tailored and time dependent masterplan, providing structure to financial, marketing and business planning.
Architect as Designer and Lead Consultant sits at the core of the Project Team. From inception to handover, our skill-set gives vision across the entire project process and the ability to provide project management services. Our RIBA Chartered Practice status provides assurance that we are just as competent with the technical and management aspects of a project’s procurement, as we are with its design.
We take budget and programme very seriously and form project goals at the beginning, monitoring key milestones throughout to ensure proposals develop in-line with the agreed parameters and brief. Critically we ensure a project is controlled and working in collaboration with a trusted team of Consultants. We use our communication and administration skills to progress the work in a timely and agreed manner.
Motivation is a key component to the successful performance of the Design Team. We recognise we are a service provider and believe our preference for an informal but professional work-style provides a team ethic that consistently delivers delight and results for our clients.
Our philosophy is to keep it simple and let the building design do the majority of the hard work.
The Government have declared a Climate change emergency and have targeted the country to be carbon neutral by 2050, with a steady flow of new legislation being adopted in order to achieve this. Buildings and construction represent a large percentage of carbon production and our approach to Architecture adopts a very practical view, which includes discussions around both capital and running costs implied by our design. Energy costs are likely to continue to rise, (be that running costs, transport or embodied energy in building materials) and therefore, we place considerable emphasis on the National Planning Policy Framework’s intention to Achieve Sustainable Development through economic, social and environmental objectives.
We take a step-by-step approach to assess the environmental performance requirements of each project and determine what is an appropriate and viable solution. Our approach is to keep proposals simple and avoid unnecessary ‘green-washing’ of a design. Sustainable technologies will be considered during the design process, however our philosophy is to make the building do most of the work, by considering:
-
Insulation
-
Natural Ventilation
-
Natural Daylighting
-
Air Tightness
-
Solar Control
-
Repair and Re-use

Our team of in-house conservation specialists bring a wealth of expertise to safeguarding our architectural history. We have extensive experience working on numerous heritage and conservation properties, carefully navigating the unique complexities that historic structures present. Our diverse portfolio encompasses some of the nation's most significant sites, managing careful adaptations across Grade II, Grade II*, and Grade I listed buildings, as well as Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
We understand that listed building refurbishment requires a delicate balance between preserving heritage and integrating modern functionality. Our specialists are adept at designing sensitive contemporary interventions that add significant value, rather than relying on inferior pastiche. By thoughtfully contrasting modern elements with retained historic fabric, we breathe new life into alternative uses while ensuring these cherished landmarks are beautifully preserved for future generations to enjoy.
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 aim to improve health and safety in construction by helping those who work in the industry to sensibly plan and manage the risks involved. These are to be coordinated and communicated from start to finish.
We are committed to the duties required of us by the CDM Regulations 2015 and are able to provide Principal Designer services. All members of the Morse Webb team undertake regular CPD training to ensure their role on construction projects and related design stages is clearly understood and managed safely.
