This new build dwelling is set within a 50 acre site located at the top of a hill abreast a plateau, providing a very dominant location within it's rural context. Such a prominent location roused the attention of the Local Planning Authority (LPA), requesting the application be brought before the Design Review Panel (DRP) on two occasions for the panel to comment on both design and architecture.
Following the first DRP, Morse Webb Architects were introduced to the client and design team as specialists in classical architecture, to amend the scheme to suffice the panel's comments.
The design features a primary classical element forming the front façade, with buildings reducing in both stature and formality as they move westwards. Additionally, a series of articulated spaces & terraces assimilate the house into its sloping hilltop setting. The design explores the use of traditional materials with strong historic connections to the location, in a contemporary colonial style.
