This new build dwelling is situated atop the Ridgeway to the north of Newbury. Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty it enjoys panoramic vistas of the rolling West Berkshire landscape. It is a private and secluded property set back from the country lane to increase privacy and maximise views across the open countryside.
The red brick masonry facades, Georgian sash windows, and pitched roof align with the location's vernacular to effectively place the proposal within it's context. While inspiration was drawn from the architectural style from the surrounding villages, these traditional motifs were radically modernised in order to suit the needs of the users. Traditional brick detailing has been incorporated in the façade, while contemporary grey Georgian window frames and a dark grey slate roof have been included to create a modern take on a traditional style of dwelling.
Luxury was the primary objective for this proposal, with the design including a large living and dining space on the ground floor, an external pool and extensive patio, and 6 bedrooms on the upper two floors, all having ensuites. Each room provides views across the landscape, with the study and bedrooms on the second floor having access to views across the entire surroundings. Despite these sweeping views, the dwelling retains it's privacy as it's obscured behind a series of hedges and vegetation, greatly reducing the views of the property from onlookers.
