The School’s ambition was to create a Centre for the Creative Arts, partly reconfiguring some of the school’s present building stock and partly through the introduction of a new 250-seat auditorium and Music School.
The proposed buildings were devised through a masterplanning process, which identified The Court Theatre to be retained and extended - previously not fit for purpose, being a converted squash court with seating for only 80 people. The existing Music Department was housed in the former chapel of the main school and whilst the department operated successfully from this impressive location it was physically distant from many of the music practice rooms and not adequately sound-proofed from other teaching areas.
The School required a modern auditorium to seat 250 people and provide a centre-piece for the increasingly successful Drama and Music curriculum. The proposal was flexible and adaptable - providing the ambience and aesthetic for a building that would become the focus of the creative arts department’s work; for parents, pupils and staff.
