The redevelopment of the east wing building at King Edward VI School provides a new multi-function auditorium, replacing a tired and outdated theatre, together with a new entrance and exhibition space, enhancing the front of the school.  The modernisation provides a better educational environment for pupils and also improves teaching facilities for Drama, Art and the Sixth Form.

The centre block of the school is a locally listed building and influences the design approach of the proposal, where materials, geometry and layout have been selected to harmonise with the main school.  The new building achieves excellent acoustics, in-line with Building Bulletin 93 and to the satisfaction of the school and building control.  The layout of the auditorium was carefully considered in consultation with ARUP Acoustics to ensure that optimum acoustic environment was achieved.
